Many people have asked us why Warrenton, VA? Why partner with the PATH Foundation? The answer is simple: to provide expanded access and pathways to recovery for individuals and families with a holistic approach focusing on the whole person; mind, body and spirit.

Aligning with organizations like the PATH Foundation is an essential step in increasing access and the continuity of care needed to treat substance use and emotional health, including depression and anxiety, at any stage.

Chris Herren first began working with the PATH Foundation just over three years ago to share his message of prevention with a focus on the first day. Over the course of the past several years he has spoken to nearly every public and private high school and middle school within Fauquier, Rappahannock and Northern Culpeper counties, creating a connection with the students and the community of Warrenton, VA. A connection that has strengthened over time and led to the opening of Herren Wellness at Twin Oaks.

“I felt a connection to the people of Fauquier County and the community of Warrenton. After many of my presentations, I would receive emails and hear from the students wanting to find help for their loved ones. I also saw the positive impact that PATH had on their community through their programs and services and knew that they would be a great organization to partner with in opening a second location of Herren Wellness.”

PATH Foundation and Herren Wellness

The purpose and mission of the PATH Foundation is aligned with ours here at Herren Wellness. Through programs and partnerships, the PATH Foundation (PATH) helps strengthen the health and vitality of the communities of Fauquier, Rappahannock, and Northern Culpeper counties in Virginia with a focus on wellness. To date they have invested $30 million in these communities through grants, programs, and partnerships with a focus on health, childhood wellness, mental health, and senior services.

“Our community needs assessments have shown that mental health issues and substance use issues are a top priority, a top need in this community. We started working with Chris speaking to the students to help with awareness. We were then intrigued with Chris’s vision of a recovery center knowing that we had a need for a variety of strategies and treatment options for many people that we recognize are at different places in their journey.”

After establishing the need, PATH came to visit Herren Wellness at Jacob Hill in Seekonk, MA and together the team began to explore locations within Fauquier County to establish the Herren Wellness program.

“The first thing I thought when I saw the Jacob Hill Campus was ‘community’ and ‘home’. It was nothing like you would imagine for a recovery facility. It’s similar to how Chris and Lori felt when they saw the Twin Oaks property for the first time…I’ll never forget when they walked into the great room and looked out the windows at the view and said ‘people can heal here’”.

Over the past two years, the concept to bring the Herren Wellness model to Warrenton, VA has become reality and through a lot of hard work and dedication, Herren Wellness at Twin Oaks opened earlier this month.

Herren Wellness at Twin Oaks will accommodate up to 21 guests and will incorporate the same holistic and recovery programs available to guests at Herren Wellness at Jacob Hill in Seekonk, MA, providing expanded access to holistic recovery in Virginia, Washington DC, the Mid-Atlantic regions and beyond.

“Like the rest of the country, our area has seen troubling increases in substance use and addiction to drugs and alcohol,” Christy Connolly, PATH Foundation president and CEO recently shared with the Fauquier Times. “The lack of recovery centers in our area is something we wanted to address, and in supporting the addition of Herren Wellness at Twin Oaks, we hope to offer a catalyst to families facing issues resulting from addiction.”

Herren Wellness is grateful for partnerships with organizations like the PATH Foundation who understand that an individual is not simply their diagnosis, but a whole person and look to provide multiple pathways to recovery for the communities they serve. Together we can make a difference and help individuals and families recover from substance use disorder.
