Family Engagement and Recovery

At Herren Wellness, we believe family involvement is an essential part of our guests’ healing, both during their stay at Herren Wellness and beyond.

We believe in treating the families alongside the person suffering from emotional health and/or substance use disorder. Our team meets the family where they are and walk with them to provide support and healing on the road to recovery. Families members work with their loved one’s Life Coach throughout the stay and on weekends they can visit our campus, spend time together, reconnect and begin to heal…together.

“All families are welcome at HW, and not just for an hour. It’s all inclusive here. We want families to feel it, experience it, understand that their loved one is not in a sterile hospital environment, that they are recovering, healing, getting better in a very beautiful setting. This also help de-stigmatize it for them. We want families to come along with their loved one in the recovery process” ~ Chris Herren, Founder, Herren Wellness

The Importance of Support for Families

Substance use disorder takes a toll on the entire family unit. Just as the individual needs time to heal, learn skills to support their recovery, and prioritize health and wellness in their life, family members need that as well.

The importance we place on the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health of our guests applies to their loved ones, too. We encourage families to seek out the same holistic therapies we prioritize here, such as sleep, fitness, nutrition, and nurturing healthy habits. We emphasize that connection to self-care and wellbeing is crucial, for their own health and to be able to support their loved one by caring for themselves, first.

Resources for Families

There are numerous resources available to families and loves ones of people in recovery and/or those with substance use disorder.

It is important to find a support community that works for members of a family and their situation; what works well for one family may not be quite right for another.

What matters most is connection. Connection to a like-minded community of other people who understand what they are going through and who prioritize a life focused on wellness, recovery, and self-care

The Herren Wellness Family

When guests first arrive at Herren Wellness the pain and damage to relationships from their substance use, as it relates to their family, can feel insurmountable. We know that with love, care, support, and wellness, all things are possible in recovery. Witnessing parents reconnect with their children and entire families embracing a life of recovery and wellness together is so special.

“It’s really a special place and I am grateful to be a part of it and see all the amazing transformations of people that first walk in the door and to when they leave and seeing families recover as well is pretty special to witness.” ~ Heather Herren, Co-Founder of Herren Wellness

When you are a guest at Herren Wellness, you become part of our family, and that doesn’t end when your stay ends. We encourage former guests to visit, share their experiences of strength and hope with current guests and continue to be a part of our program with participation in our alumni group.
